Date: 31-10-08

Pramual Pongthavaradet, Prachuap Khirikhan member of the House of Representatives; Thanongsak Rungrasamee, Prachuap Khirikhan senior assistant district officer; and Pirom Mora, director of Ban Rai Nai School, receive the library from Steve Carlisle in presence of Vijanpreda Issararee and Thanavat Sereejaroensatit, Chevrolet Hua Hin executives, as well as Supaporn Sawangjit of Pico (Thailand).

Prachuap Khirikhan – General Motors Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, in conjunction with Chevrolet Prachuap Khirikhan and Pico (Thailand) Plc, recently reaffirmed their support of Thai education by funding a library at Ban Rai Nai school in Prachuap Khirikhan province as part of the “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” project.

Thanongsak Rungrasamee, Prachuap Khirikhan senior assistant district officer, was nominated as co-president of the project along with Steve Carlisle, president of General Motors Southeast Asia Operations and Chevrolet Sales Thailand, and Pramual Pongthavaradet, Prachuap Khirikhan member of the House of Representatives. The library, supported by Chevrolet Prachuap Khirikhan and Pico (Thailand) Plc, under the ongoing “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” project is fully equipped with a range of books, learning materials and edutainment publications, a computer with Internet access and a television set complete with CD and DVD players.

“GM and Chevrolet are proud to make this facility available to the children and members of Ban Rai Nai School and we hope it will provide them with a useful source of knowledge by which to advance their education and stimulate self-development,” said Mr. Steve Carlisle.

“We are confident that this joint effort to strengthen social programs and support schools nationwide, will promote better skills and learning beyond the classroom for the Thai youth of today. We firmly believe that education is the cornerstone of social development and the establishment of a knowledge-based society is the key to a country’s future success,” he added.

After the ceremony, Mr. Carlisle, Khun Thanongsak , Khun Pramual and honoured guests including Chevrolet customers, students, and community members planted ‘Kade’ – a local tree – in the grounds of the school to create a green, healthy environment as well as to promote environmental concern within the community.

Recognizing the role of education in the development of the nation, General Motors Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand established the “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” project in 2004. In addition, the company has also developed the “Automotive Service Educational Program” (ASEP Thailand) with an initial budget of 55 million Baht to help build the automotive workforce of the future by providing auto technological labs, vehicles, advanced equipment and training for instructors at 11 leading vocational institutions across Thailand.
