Rayong – Steve Carlisle, President of General Motors Southeast Asia Operations Ltd. and Chevrolet Sales (Thailand) Limited; Chartchai Suwanasevok, Member of the Board of Directors of General Motors Southeast Asia Operations Limited; and Pairat Kunamornlert, Managing Director of Chonburi Auto Center Limited (Chevrolet Rayong), gathered with Supaporn Sawangjitt, Executive Vice President of Pico (Thailand) Plc., and a group of Chevrolet Rayong customers to donate a brand new, fully equipped library to Wat Ban Kai School in Rayong as part of the “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” program, opening up new learning opportunities for both students and members of the local community. Also attending the official opening ceremony were Deputy Governor of Rayong province, Siripong Hantrakul; Director of Rayong Educational Service District I, Nutthaseth Phosrithong; and Director of Wat Ban Kai School, Juthamas Prasertsook.
“GM and Chevrolet are pleased to provide this self-development facility for the students at Wat Ban Kai School and members of the neighboring community. We firmly believe that self-improvement leads to more developed communities and ultimately a more developed nation,” said Mr. Carlisle. The “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” project illustrates our commitment to be a good corporate citizen and part of the community in which we conduct our business. This initiative would not have been possible without the full support of Pico, Chevrolet Rayong and the generosity of Chevy customers in the eastern area,” he added.
“Wat Ban Kai School and our entire community are extremely grateful for this new library. Even though the school has been established for a long time, we’ve never had a purpose-built library filled with so many modern learning aids. Now we are fortunate to have books and computers to help our people become more knowledgeable,” said Juthamas Prasertsook, Director of Wat Ban Kai School. “Everybody in our community will take care of the Chevrolet library as it is an asset that belongs to us all,” she concluded.
Recognizing the role of education in the development of the nation, General Motors Thailand and Chevrolet Sales Thailand’s “Chevrolet Develops Thai Education” program has already donated 16 fully equipped libraries to schools around the country since being established in 2004. In addition, the company has funded scholarships worth more than 1 million Baht for students nationwide. The company’s “Automotive Service Educational Program in Thailand: ASEP Thailand,” valued at more than 55 million Baht, also provides auto technological labs, vehicles, advanced equipment and training for instructors at 11 leading vocational institutions across Thailand.
