Chevy Volt
Introducing a new kind of electric vehicle (EV) — Concept Chevy Volt. It’s unlike any previous EV, thanks to its innovative rechargeable electric drive system and range-extending power source. The vehicle is designed to run purely on electricity from on-board batteries but can also be configured to run on gasoline, E85 or biodiesel, all made possible by GM’s innovative E-Flex Propulsion System. With use of a small internal combustion engine hooked to a generator to resupply the batteries, the vehicle's range is potentially increased to more than 1,030 kilometers on the highway.
The vast majority of workers drive less than 65 kilometers or less to commute to work every day. Imagine how much gasoline and money we could save while helping reduce emissions once the Volt goes into production. The Volt is just another way Chevy is working to bring you drivable and practical vehicles that help decrease our dependence on petroleum and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
It is unquestionably an acknowledgement of the innovative clout of the Chevy Volt, that it was selected as the official vehicle for the recent 50th Annual Grammy Awards. More than 100 of these battery-powered vehicles were made available to transport celebrities and other delegates to the events of the Grammy Week. Chevrolet literally electrified the red carpet festivities with their display of this exciting, extended-range vehicle. Among the stars that enjoyed the experience were Rihanna, Corinne Bailey Rae, members of the band Plain White T’s and Cyndi Lauper, all shown below posing with the Chevy Volt.
