General Motors and Chevrolet are marking great progress in the development and utilization of new technology and alternative fuels around the world. Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet that will solve all of our energy and environmental problems in every country overnight. However, we can make a difference by leveraging different technologies and different resources at the same time. As a fuel that is in abundance and has a far smaller impact on the environment than petroleum, CNG is an important interim step – particularly here in Thailand.
Natural gas as a fuel offers several advantages over gasoline. It’s clean, more efficient, safe and most importantly, affordable. Last year, General Motors became Thailand’s first and only automaker to offer a CNG passenger car -- the 1.6-liter Chevrolet CNG Optra, capable of running on either CNG or gasoline at the flick of a switch. Because of its efficiency, the Chevrolet Optra Estate is the first and only vehicle to receive “Green Label Certification” from the Thailand Environment Institute and Thai Industrial Standards Institute of the Ministry of Industry.
