Philanthropy: Background

Our philanthropic and community relations mission is to ensure that we maintain our leadership position as a valued, responsible corporate citizen by enhancing the quality of life in the communities where we do business, consistent with GM’s corporate goals and objectives.

Through strategic philanthropy in the communities in which GM has operations around the world, GM reinforces its leadership as a responsible corporate citizen. We believe companies must actively support their communities, and at GM, we have a long tradition of giving back to the communities in which we live and work.

In Thailand, the targets for our philanthropic efforts are primarily focused on the following areas:

- Royal Projects
- Charitable Organizations and Associations
- Educational Institutions
- Communications and Journalism
- Disaster Relief

Since GM began operations in Thailand, we have contributed – through funding, donations or time to the Kingdom. Examples of our efforts have included a donation of 25 Colorado pickup trucks to the Thai Red Cross Society to aid in the tsunami relief efforts, improving Thai education through a donation of 50 million baht to schools nationwide and the AVEO beach roadtrip for one hundred disabled children of Ban Fuengfah who had never seen the sea before.

Since GM began operations in Thailand , we have contributed, through funding, donations and time to the Kingdom. Examples of these efforts include the donation of 25 Colorado pickup trucks to the Thai Red Cross Society to aid in its tsunami relief efforts, a donation of 50 million baht towards Thai education to help bring improvements to schools nationwide and the AVEO road-trip by which one hundred disabled children from Ban Fuengfah, who had never seen the sea before, were given a day out at the beach. Furthermore, in recognition of the prodigious amount of hard work undertaken by the Thai royal family towards the ongoing development of the country, GM has provided material support to several royal projects, including the donation of a Chevrolet Captiva diesel to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for use in her charitable activities.

GM employees have also contributed with their own time and effort to these projects. We recognize that charitable giving in areas that make a difference in people’s lives also contributes to employee pride and morale. At GM, we are committed to the corporate citizenry of our organization and the sustainable development of the Kingdom of Thailand.
